Assistance Organizations
There are many organizations to help provide assistance following a natural disaster. When looking for help consider the following heirarchy:
Generally the higher the level the longer the time it will take for you to get assistance. Also each level is usually only designed to handle problems that can not be done by a lower level.Local => City => State => National
Local Assistance
Neighborhood Emergency Group:
Even if you do not already have a neighborhood homeowners association, we recommend at least an informal group be organized to help watch out for each other following a disaster. At the very least you can keep a phone tree for contacting your neighbors about the current conditions of their property.
CERT:
CERT is an acronym for Community Emergency Responce Team. These are ordinary citizens that have completed a training program to help assist in emergency situations where organizations like the police and fire department find they are overwhelmed. CERT members can help with house to house searches and inspections.
City/County
Brevard County Office of Emergency Management:
This organization coordinates emergency management activities, services
and programs within the county, such as, maintaining the county's
Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, provides control and
coordination of emergency operations in emergencies. For more

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a branch of the Department of
Homeland Security. The primary mission of the FEMA is to reduce the loss
of life and property and protect the Nation from all hazards, including
natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and
other man-made disasters, by leading and supporting the Nation in a
risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness,
protection, response, recovery, and mitigation.
Red Cross:
[Space Coast Chapter 321-890-1002,
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate
emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or
strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental
health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these
services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance
given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable
them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for removing debris from federally designated,navigable channels and turning basins. Examples include the following: Removal of debris or shoaling to restore channels and turning basins to authorized and permitted conditions, removal of wrecked vessels or waterborne debris deemed to be a navigation hazard.
Department of Environmental Protection
The Bureau of Beaches and Coastal Systems, under the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, is responsible for administering the State's beach management program to protect and restore the state's beaches and coastal systems and has five sections, which share in the implementation of the program.
