Calm After The Storm (CATS)
By helping others you help yourself.
The goal for this program is to organize and lead work groups that can provide assistance to nearby cities following a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, or flood.
Overview of CATS program
Training:
We hold a general meeting every other month that features a speaker on some topic that we think might benefit volunteers. In particular, it is hoped that people that attend the talks will be able to serve as group leaders when we go to a disaster site.Organization:
In the event of an emergency people from our committee will be contacting volunteers and evaluating how we might best help. Other projects include such tasks as contacting churches in the affected area, locating a base site, contacting Emergency Services to see when we can safely enter, and procuring needed supplies.Participation:
If you wish to volunteer and participate in a work group, please leave us your name and a phone number or email address. This does not obligate you to attend. It just means that we will contact you to let you know when we plan to send a group into an area. If you wish to attend we will send you further information such as what to bring and where we will stay.If you think you might wish to learn more and possibly be a work group leader then you may wish to attend the general meetings and listen to some of our speakers. You do not need to be a volunteer to attend, nor do you need to attend to be a volunteer.
